Loved our stay at The Royal Hotel

Really enjoyed our stay. All the staff were lovely. They were having refurbishments done to the rooms. We stayed in one of the refurbished rooms and were very impressed with our stay. Would definitely stay here again. The hotel had great views and was a short walk away from the shops.

Nice hotel well situated

Major renovation work taking place so the place was in upheaval. Hopefully it will be all finished for the summer. Be sure to book parking when booking as it is very limited.

Excellent location with a great staff!

This hotel is bit of a throwback to the seaside hotels of years gone by and is fantastic. The hotel was undergoing renovations during our stay and so I will assume it will be even better once complete. But our stay was lovely, with the pleasant desk clerk making us feel welcomed and appreciated and the restaurant staff attentive and happy! The pizza, beer and wine was excellent. We had 2 of the "cosy" rooms and the pictures included in the listing are accurate. I would absolutely stay here again and happily recommend to anyone.
Lobby with some of the ongoing work.
Bar pizza and calzone. All excellent!
The view from our cosy room

Great location for views of Whitby

This is a large old fashioned hotel on top of the cliff overlooking the harbour and abbey across the valley. It is under renovation at the moment and trying to keep things okay for customers. It succeeds to a degree.

Tale of 2 halves

A tale of 2 halfs really. Staff were all lovely, especislly the gorgeous girl who was running the breakfast room. Looked after my friend and i with a sea view both days and breakfast was delicious. Only downside was the room which is is dire need of an update. However, thd beds were vety comfy and we had a lovely sea view. I would return once the renovations are complete.

Got upgrading to a sea view (single) and the view was fantastic. Very central. Quite noisy one night( creaky floors, people talking) but good value and i would stay again.

Location and Staff very good

The rooms are a little shabby, although they are refurbishing- hence no lift at present. The staff were very helpful, rooms clean and had everything we needed. Good location at the top of the steps by the whalebones, parking is a headache as on street parking is expensive from March to end October, hotel car park was full.

Comfortable stay & excellent value for money

Although hotel is obviously having parts refurbished there was no detrimental impact on guests. Staff were extremely helpful & friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Food in the restaurant was excellent. We felt valued as guests & thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Not a place to visit at the moment

We paid extra for a sea view room. Yes we got a room on the 3rd floor with a wonderful view of Whitby. Unfortunately the lift is out of service for 3 months, a fact that we had not been told about when we booked. The room was very tired, the heating could not be adjusted meaning we had to sleep on top of the bed to keep cool. There were a lot of workmen milling around renovating the hotel. Maybe it might of been a good idea to close down for a couple of months. The breakfast could do with a little improvement and bigger size plates wouldn't go a miss. I'm sure when the hotel has been fully refurbished it may be worth another visit.
