Beautiful old hotel with fantastic friendly staff and one of the best full breakfasts we’ve had in the UK. It can be noisy with the pub downstairs (we were on the 1st floor) and the proximity to the other buildings. Dinner at the Ferry Inn which is the sister hotel was incredible. Make sure to have the scallops.

There’s a back bar that’s bright and comfortable (ask the bartender how to get through). The rooms were small but comfortable. The people were so friendly in this little town. Great food but everything closes early. Far fewer tourists here. It’s a great stop!

Quick check-in and very comfy room. Hotel is situated only 2min walk away from ferry terminal. Rooms were clean and bigh enough for us two and our luggage. Freshly prepared breakfast- nice! BUT the hotel has a bar on the ground floor and at 2 nights (out of 3) we really struggled to fall asleep because of the loud music and talks. I really love bars, but I also expect hotel rooms to be quiet (at least after 10pm).

Great location on main street in heart of Stromness, very convenient for the bus to Kirkwall and hiring bike. The staff were very helpful and breakfast service was excellent. Unfortunately there was a problem with the lighting in the bathroom, which without a window for natural light was very dim.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were excellent. Our room was Ok but the shower in the bathroom was poor and let the room down. We had an enjoyable stay in Orkney. There is only limited parking outside the hotel so used nearby longstay parking. It is a pity that the hotel does not provide food in the evenings but the food at the sister hotel "The Ferry Inn " was good to excellent. We would stay again.

This is one of the few places to stay in the ferry port of Stromness, Mainland Orkney. The staff (and pretty much everyone on the island) are extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is well-located close to the ferry to mainland Scotland. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The included breakfast is marvelous! The main drawbacks are that the building is old, so there is no parking and no elevator. The hotel is staffed only by the breakfast servers and then the bartender, so checking in is slightly confusing. The sister hotel, The Ferry Inn, responds promptly to any concerns however and is very helpful. I would definitely stay here again!

Charming little hotel in Stromness. The staff were wonderful and very accommodating. The breakfast each morning was a huge plus before we set off to explore. Unfortunately for our family we booked during Shopping Week and were expecting a quiet stay, but instead got loud, rowdy nights as the only pub in town is at the hotel. If you are travelling in July make note of Shopping Week dates unless you are there for the party. 😊 Also, not many eating spots are open later at night so plan accordingly!!

We only really saw staff at the hotel when we checked in and out. Otherwise it seemed relatively unattended. Noise from the pub carried upstairs into our room. The hotel has no lift, which I understand, but I sorted my search by places with lifts and it still came up. My friend has problems with stairs, so it was kind of inconvenient. Overall am OK stay, but next time I would stay in Kirkwall.
